Recently I did a story on how stress is literally killing us, well loneliness can have the same effect. Loneliness is poison and it can be deadly. One thing we discovered during the past year is that while we were being kept away from friends and loved ones is that loneliness is all that it's cracked up to be.

You may be thinking, "Glenn how can you be lonely?" Loneliness takes many shapes and can sneak up on you like a lion. I'm not letting it stop me but if I dwell on it too long, it can take over my mind.

Here are some things to try:

Be Honest About Your Loneliness

If you got bad news, who would be the first person that you would call? If you are like so many, your answer might be "no one." The first step is to admit that you're lonely. It doesn't mean that you're weak, it means that your human.

Don't blame yourself and certainly don't try to numb it, that is a temporary fix and won't help in the long run.

Reach Out To Someone

Relationships are about eye to eye, not social media contact. You can trade information through social media but not a connection. Think about it this way, if you're in the hospital, how many of your Facebook friends would come to see you?

Don't Let Social Media Take Over

We were lied to when we were told that social media would help us stay connected with our loved ones. In fact, there is some proof that social media can increase our feeling of loneliness. Check in then check out.

Find A Group To Join

I recently joined a men's small group and I've thoroughly enjoyed meeting men from different walks of life but heading in the same direction. I was apprehensive at first but I was so glad that I didn't let it stop me.

You can become a better friend and find better friends. It just takes that first step to start a rewarding journey and leave the road of loneliness in your rearview mirror.

Whether it's a Bible-believing church, small group, or a bowling team, find a group of people that you have something in common with. It makes a HUGE difference when you get to know someone and they get to know you.

LIve life together because you were born on purpose for a purpose.
