Vestal Town Board May Vote on Bunn Hill Project at Next Meeting

A key decision on the fate of a controversial 161-unit apartment project in Vestal is expected soon.

The town board Wednesday evening reviewed a series of potential concerns involving the proposed development on a 43-acre site off Bunn Hill and Jensen roads. The property is located south of the Binghamton University campus.

Several issues raised by the Vestal planning board were discussed during the meeting. The town board chose to put off a vote on the project until its April 28 session.

People who live near the project site and some other Vestal residents have been fighting the plans submitted by Georgia-based Landmark Properties.

The company intends to purchase land controlled by the Kradjian family to develop what it calls The Retreat at Bunn Hill, which could become home to several hundred people.

Most of those who have spoken at public hearings on the project have expressed opposition to it.

If the town authorizes the proposed development, the project foes have indicated they are prepared to take legal action to prevent it from going forward.
