Utility Pole Knocked Down, Strikes Vehicle on Front Street
A section of Front Street north of Binghamton was shut down after a rush-hour crash caused a pole to fall onto a passing vehicle.
The incident happened shortly after 7:30 a.m. Thursday near the entrance of the Dunkin' store at 1315 Upper Front Street in the Town of Chenango.
Authorities say a car struck the utility pole, causing it to come crashing down across the southbound lanes of the roadway.
One person was evaluated at the scene by medics from the Broome Volunteer Emergency Squad.
A New York State Electric and Gas crew removed the pole from the street. Power to the doughnut shop and other nearby businesses on Front Street was not affected by the crash.
New York State troopers, Broome County sheriff's deputies and state Department of Transportation workers helped to guide traffic around the scene.
