More Lighting Coming to Roundabout Zone in Town of Dickinson

Drivers who travel on Route 11 in the town of Dickinson can expect things to get brighter in the area of the two recently-opened roundabouts.

Construction crews are continuing to work near the Interstate 81 interchange between Old Front and Bevier streets, just north of the city of Binghamton.

The first of the two new roundabouts opened in late June. The second became operational in early August, prior to the start of the Spiedie Fest and Balloon Rally at Otsiningo Park.

Some motorists who've used the traffic circles at night have said navigating the roundabouts can be challenging during dark and rainy conditions.

A Department of Transportation spokesperson said while many lights have been installed in the area, some are not yet operational.

Workers in coming weeks will complete a pedestrian path and finish landscaping throughout the work zone.

Signals and pedestrian crossings at Bevier Street are to be upgraded. Additional signage will be installed as part of the improvement plan.

The project is expected to be substantially complete by the end of next month. Operations in the work zone should be wrapped up by year's end.
