Two More Shops Open in Restored Binghamton Building
Additional businesses have started operating at the Number 5 Commons development in Binghamton's South Side.
Common Soil Juicery opened for business Monday in a building at 39 South Washington Street. The space was last used by La Tazza coffeehouse.
Co-owners Riley Stichter and Julie Chambers have been working over the last several weeks to get things ready for the opening.
Stichter said things "came together quickly" once they starting setting up equipment and a seating area for the business that feature cold-pressed juice and smoothies.
Stichter had experience working with his siblings at a couple of similar shops in northern Indiana in recent years.
Brix Barber Company, a barber shop, opened at 41 South Washington Street - next door to Common Soil Juicery - last week.
Number 5 Commons developer Brett Pritchard said he is finalizing a lease with a single tenant to use the second floor of the building when renovations are completed.
Pritchard also said he two or three commercial tenants are close to completing plans to occupy the street level of the historic firehouse where Number 5 restaurant had operated for more than four decades.
A large Mirabito convenience store and a Peoples Security Bank & Trust office opened in a newly-constructed section of the Number 5 Commons last September.
