Tioga Downs in Nichols is one of the casinos that had looked to eliminate four dozen slot machines in anticipation of New York State approving sports betting.

Betting in casinos on things like professional baseball and football in New York is expected to be approved later this year.

Some of the new upstate casinos have been showing losses in revenue after a flurry of activity that followed the state’s approval of licensing for full-service Las Vegas-style gaming at four locations outside of New York City.

Under-performing slots are expected to be replaced with sports betting and other money-making amenities at some of the businesses looking to rescue slagging bottom lines.
