One of the most exciting events of the year returns this weekend along the shore of Lake Erie and it is all for a great cause! You could be "freeezin' for a reason" at the 2021 Special Olympics Polar Plunge!

  • Woodlawn Beach Cleanup: Thursday, December 2nd from 10am to 12pm
  • Cool School Plunge for High Schools: Friday, December 3rd, Registration from 2:00pm - 3:30pm, Plunge at 4:00pm
  • Buffalo Polar Plunge: Saturday, December 4th, Registration from 11:00am - 1:00pm, Plunge at 2:00pm
  • Address for all events: Woodlawn Beach State Park, 3580 Lake Shore Road Buffalo, NY 14219

This is such a fun event!! The current temperature of the water in Lake Erie is a chilly, 49 degrees!! But don't let that keep you from the fun. You can help Special Olympics in other ways.

At this event last year, 350 participants raised $105,000. Individuals and teams who’d like to join this year’s Plunge may do so by registering online at polarplungeny.org/Buffalo. For more information, please contact Erica Raepple at 716-909-6444 or eraepple@nyso.org

I have done the plunge in the past and it is such a fun event! It feels even better to know that it helps the largest state chapter of Special Olympics in the country!

Special Olympics New York is the largest state chapter in the country, serving more than 51,000 registered Athletes and Unified Partners across New York with year-round sports training, athletic competition, and health screenings.

The cold weather will stick around for the rest of the weekend and will bring in some snow for the Monday Night Football game in Orchard Park this coming Monday! Dress warm for any of the fun this weekend!
