Syracuse is going green for the holiday season. The annual real Clinton Square Christmas tree will be replaced with an artificial one this year.

"Traditions will continue while saving resources during this holiday season," Syracuse Parks & Rec shared on Facebook. "A long-standing debate over the the City of Syracuse Clinton Square Christmas tree is coming to an end."

This year a four story artificial tree, lit with thousands of colored LED lights will decorate Clinton Square. The tree lighting will be held Friday, Nov. 29.

"We heard you Syracuse, loud and clear, and we can't wait to show you what we have in store."

Watch Mayor Walsh, Chief Operating Officer Corey Driscoll Dunham, Commissioner LaFave, and City Arborist Steve Harris read a few of the comments people have shared about the old tree.
