Suggestions Sought for Planned Binghamton Park Project

Binghamton residents are being given an opportunity to offer their ideas on a planned $500,000 park improvement project.

Mayor Richard David says an online survey is being conducted in an effort to obtain suggestions about changes that will be made at Columbus Park.

In a written statement, David noted the downtown park is located in one of the city's poorest neighborhoods. He said it hasn't received "the kind of investments necessary to keep it up to date, with the amenities residents deserve."

The mayor said the improvement project "will upgrade old and underutilized spaces and make Columbus Park a recreational destination."

People will be able to offer their opinions about the future of the facility through August 30.

An Ithaca-based firm is designing the project. Planners will seek additional suggestions by phone or video conference.

A public meeting on the Columbus Park enhancements is expected to be held in September.
