Store Planned Adjacent to Vestal Residential Neighborhood
A major national retail chain wants to open a store next to a residential neighborhood in Vestal.
A Dollar General store is being planned for a four-and-a-half acre site on West Sheedy Road. The property, which is located just west of Route 26, is directly across from the Vestal Park Rehabilitation and Nursing Center.
The town Zoning Board of Appeals held a public hearing Thursday evening on a request for a variance to permit the store to be built with fewer parking spaces than required under existing regulations.
The board voted 4 to 0 to allow the project to move forward with less than half of the parking spaces normally needed for property zoned for community business.
There are nine homes on Juneberry Road south and west of the site where the store is to be constructed.
Officials at Dollar General's headquarters in Tennessee did not return a call seeking information on the new Vestal store. Town supervisor John Schaffer was not available Friday to comment on the project.
