Unfortunately, the divorce rate is at between 40 and 50 percent for the country, so how does one insure that their marriage will last? Bustle and a 2017 American Community Survey says that the states with the lowest rates of divorce were Hawaii, New York, Vermont, Illinois, and New Jersey. Now what else do these states have in common?

  • Lower student loan debt and money (or lack of) can definitely be a source of stress for a marriage with one in eight divorced people citing student loan debt as a cause for their divorce.
  • They're happier in these states than others which can say a lot for the marriages in these states. If you're a happy and well-rounded individual, you are likely married to a happy and well-rounded individual and that spells marriage success!
  • Less people are married in these states on average, so it only makes sense that with less marriages comes less divorce! The millennial generation is definitely not getting married as rapidly as previous generations which might be because they can't afford a wedding, or because they simply don't believe in marriage!

I hope that no one goes into a marriage expecting to get divorced, but with nearly half of all marriages ending in divorce, it's always good to stack the deck in your relationship and living in New York definitely works in my favor!
