An ultralight aircraft crashed into some trees after its engine failed moments after it took off near Whitney Point.

Authorities say the incident happened around 8 p.m. Tuesday in the area of 3110 Route 206 in the town of Triangle.

According to the Broome County Sheriff's Office, the homemade aircraft went down a short distance from where it had taken off.

Investigators say the pilot, Frank Snyder of Route 206, was not hurt. He was able to extricate himself from the aircraft.

Snyder was evaluated by a medical crew at the scene.

The Federal Aviation Administration was advised of the crash.
