Rotary Club Looks to Make Johnson City Tree Peony Capital of U.S.
The Johnson City Rotary Club is hoping to improve the look of a park near the new Binghamton University Pharmacy School at Corliss Avenue and Willow Street while celebrating cultural diversity.
The club has adopted Jennison Park and planted tree peonies. The plants are small Japanese bushes that produce large blossoms.
The Rotary is holding a Tree Peony Festival and J.C. Renaissance celebration at Jennison Park Sunday from 11 a.m.-5 p.m.
Live music and artisans will be on hand.
A highlight is the chance for people to buy their own tree peonies. For each one purchased, the Rotary will plant another at a park, school or church in Johnson City in an effort to make Johnson City the Tree Peony Capital of the United States.
