Red Flag Warning for Fire Danger in Northeast Pennsylvania
Northeast Pennsylvania is under a Red Flag Warning for the danger of wildfire.
The National Weather Service in Binghamton issued the warning from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. April 28 in response to expected gusty winds and low relative humidity combined with low moisture in fuel like tree limbs and cleared brush.
All that adds up to the possibility that any fire could rapidly catch and be driven out of control by the high winds.
A Fire Weather Watch has also been issued for Friday morning into Friday evening, April 29.
The National Weather Service says both days winds could be steady at 10 to 20 miles per hour with gusts as high as 35. Relative Humidity could measure as low as 20 percent.
Low Relative Humidity and strong winds allow fuels to dry out and become favorable for fire spread if set ablaze.
There is no lightning in the forecast to cause a natural ignition of the fuel.
Residents should refrain from outdoor burning of materials.
In New York State, a ban on outside burning is in place until mid-May due to the danger of grass and brush fires.
