Binghamton Rumble Ponies fans will be able to get a fast Covid-19 test at the stadium before the team's first series of home games.

Mayor Richard David and Broome County Executive Jason Garnar announced the initiative  Friday afternoon.

Speaking at the downtown stadium, Garnar noted current state guidance requires fans to be vaccinated or to have had a recent negative Covid test result.

Binghamton city firefighters will administer rapid tests prior to the first six games. The testing will be available for free.

Beginning May 19, New York State will permit people to attend outdoor events without being vaccinated or without a negative Covid test.

Under the new guidance, those who have proof of vaccination won't need to maintain distance between other fans. Others will have to follow social distancing rules.

Binghamton's home opener is scheduled for Tuesday evening when the Rumble Ponies are to host the Altoona Curve. The first pitch is set for 6:35 p.m.
