Popular 162-Year Old-Pennsylvania Fair Canceled Due to Coronavirus Concerns

Lovers of fair food, including some of the best-tasting corn this side of Iowa, will have to wait until 2021 to satisfy their craving as concerns over the coronavirus pandemic has canceled yet another fair.

For 162 years, people have traveled from all over the Northeast to attend the Harford Fair to learn about the long history of one of the few remaining true agricultural county fairs with a visit to the Founders Museum and New Log Cabin.

Each summer, Harford Fair visitors look forward to flocking to dozens of food vendors (including the fair famous grilled corn), participating in contests such as the Baby Show and Truck and Tractor Pulls and, watching incredible concerts.

In a Facebook post shared on Monday, July 7, Harford Fair organizers announced, "After careful consideration and lots of thought, the decision has been made to cancel the 2020 Harford Fair."

While sad, there seems to be a general consensus that the right decision was made. The vast majority of people who replied to the announcement made by organizers expressed sadness but understanding.

Amy Winkleblech Wood wrote,

I know that this decision makes all who had to decide hurt as much as the rest of us. Can't wait til next year!!!

Melissa Davidson agreed, commenting,

...When we come together in 2021 it will be amazing. A year like no other year! We have extra time now to come together and make necessary repairs, plan for 2021, and make it the best year ever!

Harford Fair but organizers are optimistic that the fair will return in 2020, posting on Facebook, "Be sure to mark your calendars for the 2021 Harford Fair, August 16-21st!"
