Johnson City police were sent to the Wegmans store on Harry L Drive when someone saw six men in camouflage with weapons sitting in the cafe.

Village police chief Brent Dodge said it turned out the men were members of the Metro SWAT team who stopped by the store to get something to eat before a training session.

The call about the armed men in the store was received shortly before 9 a.m. Wednesday.

Dodge said a police officer spoke with two of the SWAT team members to confirm there was no problem at the store.

Although the caller apparently didn't see any police vehicles, Dodge said the large marked van used by the Binghamton police SWAT unit was parked outside the store.

The call to police comes in the aftermath of a series of mass shooting incidents in stores and other public places across the country.

Wegmans manager Tom Kaufman said he had not been aware that police were called to check on the SWAT team members in the cafe. He said they usually visit the store before they go out for their weekly training activities.
