OurSpace Playground Rebuilding Project Set to Begin
Equipment and materials have been staged at Binghamton's Recreation Park as workers prepare to construct a new OurSpace playground.
Much of the existing accessible facility was destroyed by an arson fire on June 1, less than four years after the playground opened.
Skilled workers and hired contractors are scheduled to start the rebuilding contract on Monday.
Volunteers from across the community were not recruited for the new project because of COVID-19 distancing guidelines that must be followed.
A large tent has been erected near the construction site just west of Laurel Avenue.
Jennifer O'Brien, who was the coordinator for the initial OurSpace project, has said the new playground will be almost identical to the original.
Binghamton police detective Captain Cory Minor said the arson case remains under investigation.
