Newburgh Girl Has Epic Birthday Thanks to Creative Neighbors
An entire Hudson Valley neighborhood came together to make sure the coronavirus outbreak wouldn't ruin a six-year-old's birthday.
A Newburgh girl's parents wanted to make sure their daughter, Avery, didn't miss out on a birthday celebration this year, so they secretly enlisted the help of their neighbors. David and Rachel Gecht dropped off letters at the houses on their quiet street near Algonquin Park. In the notes, the parents asked their neighbors to make birthday signs for Avery and hang them in their windows and yards.
On Saturday the family went out on a walk and were blown away by what they actually saw.
According to David, not only were their signs, but neighbors also left presents, balloons and even organized special scavenger hunts for her. The heartwarming gesture was something David was not expecting. "It was amazing that in these tough times people came together and made a six-year-old so happy."
The smile on Avery's face in photos provided by the family show just how happy Avery's neighbors made her.
While Avery was obviously pleased with the way her birthday turned out, her parents were just as appreciative of their neighbors' generosity. David said the whole experience showed him just how kind people can be to each other., "even in tough times people care... even ones that you have never met."
