New York’s Record COVID Tests, Broome Cases Continue Rapid Rise

New York State reports its administered the largest number of tests for the coronavirus anywhere in the United States. 

Of the 145,811 COVID-19 diagnostic test results conducted October 6, over 1,800 came back positive and there were ten new deaths.

Broome County had an additional 97 positive results and now has recorded 2,140 cases of the coronavirus since the start of the pandemic and 83 deaths.

Binghamton University has recorded 145 positive tests to date with 48 over the past seven days.

Elsewhere in the Southern Tier, Cortland County, where SUNY Cortland has gone to remote instruction following an outbreak of COVID-19 cases, recorded an increase of 19 cases to a total of 373 since the pandemic began in March. Chenango County had two new cases for a total of 265 and seven deaths.  Delaware County was unchanged at 129 positives and eight deaths and Tioga County reported ten new cases from Wednesday, 19 from Tuesday for a total of 321 and 27 deaths.

Tioga County Legislative Chair Martha Saurebrey issued a statement urging people during the long holiday weekend to remain on guard against the spread of the coronavirus by maintaining social distancing, wearing masks and frequently washing hands.
