How Much Fun Is New York State Compared To Other States?
Where do you go for fun? How about when you have a day off or on vacation? Do you spend time doing fun things close to home, or do you prefer to travel somewhere else in the United States to get your fun on?
I have nothing against my home state of New York, but my days off and vacations are usually spent in another state. Obviously most o the time, it's at my seasonal campground in Bradford County, Pennsylvania, so I'm not far from home, but when my wife and I did travel, our favorite, fun places included the beaches in Maryland, South Carolina, and Virginia, the Shenandoah National Park in Virginia, and the occasional trip to Florida to visit the mouse.
But, there are a lot of fun things to do in New York State as well. I guess for those of us who live in the Empire State, we tend to skip some of the great things in favor of traveling far away.
But in the grand scheme of things, New York State is one of the most popular places in the country to go to for fun, according to a study conducted by the Wallet Hub website. They came up with the ranking of 2022's most fun states in America, through 26 indicators of a fun time like the cost of a movie, restaurant choices, ski resorts, entertainment, personal expenditures, and national park accessibility to name a few.
Believe it or not, out of the 50 states, New York State landed at number 4 on the list. The other states in the top 5 included Illinois at number 5, Nevada at number 3, Florida at number 2, and California at number 1.
The top five make sense to me, although I'm not sure I'd prefer California over the rest. It's an expensive state in regards to spending, cost of gasoline, traffic congestion, and other factors. Although I suppose if you avoided the major cities, it might not be quite as bad.
Pennsylvania also scored high on the most fun states in America, coming in at number 13. Wallet Hub broke out the 'fun' in various categories. New York State tied for 1st for restaurants, 3rd for movie theaters, 5th for golf courses, 1st for performing arts (hurray for Broadway!), and 2nd for fitness.
