Another national hotel brand is launching operations along the crowded Vestal Parkway corridor.

Plans for the 87-room Tru by Hilton were announced more than three years ago. The hotel was constructed on a site that had been home to the Joseph Coury Furniture Gallery store for decades.

Construction for the three-story $6.5 million project began in the spring of 2018. The property, which is a short distance west of the Binghamton University campus, will be managed by Visions Hotels of Corning.

The Tru brand was launched by Hilton three years ago. Its hotels feature what are described as "smaller, more efficiently designed rooms."

The new Vestal hotel has a complimentary breakfast bar, along with a lobby with areas for guests to work, play games, eat and lounge.

General manager Kristen Fata said a specially-designed mural in the lobby highlights many of the features of the Binghamton area. She said the hotel will open Tuesday evening.

Vestal town supervisor John Schaffer said although there already are several hotels along the parkway, he believes more may be built in the future. He said "the demand is there."
