A non-verbal autistic boy who had been missing for hours was found near a McDonald's restaurant in Apalachin.

Authorities say 13-year-old Easton Kamper was reported missing around 9:15 p.m. Friday.

The boy had left his home on Hilltop Road in Tioga Terrace on foot wearing only a sweatshirt, sweatpants and one shoe.

According to New York State Police, a search was launched with dozens of agencies and hundreds of volunteers.

People gathered at Apalachin Fire Station 2 on Route 434, a short distance from the boy's home. After receiving instructions, the volunteers fanned out across the area to go door-to-door in the neighborhood. They also searched wooded areas and near streams.

After volunteers checked the area close to his home, the search for the child was suspended. It resumed shortly after 7 a.m. Saturday.

The boy was found about an hour later near Main and Cross streets in Apalachin. He was nearly two miles from his home.

Police said he appeared to be in good condition. He was taken to Wilson Medical Center in Johnson City to be evaluated.

Agencies from Tioga, Broome, Chenango and Tompkins counties assisted in the search.
