Some milk processed by Mountain Fresh Dairy in Binghamton has been recalled because it was improperly pasteurized.

The milk recall was announced by the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets.

Agriculture commissioner Richard Ball said the recall involves one percent lowfat milk produced at the Mountain Fresh facility at 145 Conklin Avenue. It was packaged in half-gallon plastic containers marked: "USE BY JUL 07 2017."

The milk was distributed by the Community Hunger Outreach Warehouse in Broome County.

CHOW director Jack Seman said the agency had received 26 cases of the milk affected by the recall. He said the company retrieved 20 of those cases from the CHOW facility in Binghamton Thursday.

Seman said six agencies which received some of the affected milk were advised of the recall and directed to destroy the milk.

According to the agriculture department, the milk also was sold at three New Jersey grocery stores. The milk was sold under the name "Mountain Fresh Kosher Dairy Cholov Yisroel."

Routine testing by the state agency revealed that this lot of milk had been improperly pasteurized. Proper pasteurization heats milk to eliminate bacteria like Listeria and Salmonella.

Mountain Fresh Dairy started milk production at the old Crowley Foods facility on Conklin Avenue last November.
