The Broome County Health Department, Deposit and Deposit Central Schools are highlighting the day with an event on Second street at 7:15 a.m.

Organizers say the event will showcase school children biking and walking to school, stressing the importance of physical activity.

The Village of Deposit has implemented the Complete Streets project, funded through the Broome County Health Department’s Creating Healthy Schools and Communities Grant.  The program provides safe access for pedestrians, bicyclists, motorists and transit riders of all abilities and includes sidewalk and crosswalk improvements and bicycle lanes.

Traffic safety is also being included in curriculum in physical education programs.
