A man was shot by a Pennsylvania state trooper after a disturbance at a Susquehanna County home.

Authorities say police received a report of a dispute at a residence in Hallstead borough just before 9:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The incident happened on Dubois Street. People who live near the home where the disturbance occurred told WNEP-TV they heard four to six gunshots. After police arrived, someone was heard shouting: "Put the gun down."

According to state police, troopers were confronted by a man who was "brandishing a firearm."

Investigators say the armed man "refused to comply with numerous verbal commands." They say troopers then "discharged their weapons" and wounded the man.

Police did not say how many shots struck the man. He was treated at the scene and then taken to a hospital. No information was released on his condition.

No troopers were injured in the incident.
