As thousands of people are expected in Downtown Binghamton this weekend for the LUMA Projection Lights Festival, motorists should be aware that starting at 5 p.m. September 6 several streets in the downtown area will be closed through Sunday morning, September 9.

Parking is also being banned on several of the streets to allow for set up.

Most of the computer-mapped projections on downtown buildings will be shown outside with one inside performance at the United Presbyterian Church, 42 Chenango Street this year.  In addition, the festival has expanded from a single night to an event Friday through Sunday, including animation seminars, performances and parties.

The following streets downtown will be closed:

Chenango from Henry to the roundabout, Court from Water to Centenary, Exchange from Hawley to the roundabout, Hawley from State to Exchange, Henry from Washington to State, State Street from Lewis to Hawley Street and Washington Street from Hawley to Court Street.

There are several designated parking locations for the festival and motorists are urged to follow all detour signs and instructions from Binghamton Police and LUMA officials.

Remember, the outdoor projections are on continuous loops, so spectators don’t all have to be in a particular location at any single time to view a performance.
