People who use a downtown Binghamton parking garage may be looking for alternatives for the next few weeks.

The underground portion of the State Street ramp will be utilized for a special feature at the upcoming LUMA Projection Arts Festival.

The two lowest levels of the garage were placed out of service last week. The two other underground levels are scheduled to close on September 5. They are to reopen on September 9.

LUMA production director Conrad Taylor said a feature called "Phasing Rain" will be presented in the parking garage. He said it will be one of the more technically challenging events in this year's festival.

Taylor said the feature will be "one of the most compelling pieces that we've ever put together." Phasing Rain is a project of Barcelona-based OnionLab and artist Xavi Bove.

Phasing Rain is one of the two ticketed features planned for this year's LUMA festival. There is no charge for most other events.
