Investigators are interviewing two potential suspects in a deadly home invasion shooting in Tioga County.

Authorities say two men forced their way into a residence at 5 Dorothy Road in Apalachin early Thursday morning.

A man who was shot in the back was pronounced dead at the scene. A woman who also lived in the home was not hurt.

State police, sheriff's deputies and medics were sent to the home shortly before 6 a.m.

As investigators sealed off Dorothy Street, several people gathered nearby. One distraught man told a reporter: "My brother just got killed."

One possible suspect was found walking on Route 434 in the town of Vestal, just over a mile from the crime scene. New York State Police Major Brian Shortall said he was taken into custody without incident.

Police searched for a second suspect for several hours after the shooting. He was located and was being questioned by investigators.

Classes at Tioga Hills Elementary School, which is located just northeast of the crime scene, were canceled Thursday. Other schools in Tioga and Broome counties were locked down as a precaution as police searched for the other suspect.
