Lane Closures This Week on Prospect Mountain Project in Binghamton

Some big changes for motorists to deal with this week in the Prospect Mountain construction project on Route 17 and Interstate 81 in Binghamton include new lane closures.

I-81 South is down to 1 lane between Exit 5 (the SUNY Broome exit) and Broad Avenue, 17 East is down to one lane between Exit 72 (Front Street) and Broad Avenue and 81 North/ 17 West is down to one lane between Exit 3 (Broad Avenue) and Exit 4-A (Port Dickinson) through Friday.

In addition, there will be alternating lane closures on Route 7 North and South between Bevier and Frederick Streets, on Bevier Street from Chenango Street to Broad Avenue and on Broad Avenue from Abbott Street to Bevier Street.

All of the work through Friday is dependent on the weather.

The New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) today announced that construction work for the Prospect Mountain Construction project will be performed and will affect traffic in the city of Binghamton. 

Starting Monday, September 30, 2019, through Friday, October 4, 2019, I81 South will be reduced to one lane between Exit 5 (Front St/SUNY Broome) and Broad Avenue for crews to perform pavement grinding and grooving.  This work will take place Monday through Thursday, between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. and Friday between 9 a.m. and noon. This work is weather dependent. Please expect long traffic delays during these times for this operation. 

Starting Monday, September 30, 2019, through Friday, October 4, 2019, NY 17 East will be reduced to one lane between Exit 72 (Front St/ Downtown Binghamton) and Broad Avenue for concrete pavement grooving operations. This work will take place Monday through Friday, between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. This work is weather dependent. Please expect long traffic delays during these times for this operation. 

Starting Monday, September 30, 2019, through Friday, October 4, 2019, I81 North/NY 17 West will be reduced to one lane between Exit 3 (Broad Ave.) and Exit 4A (Binghamton/Port Dickinson) for pavement grooving and pavement marking operations. This work will take place Monday through Thursday, between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. and Friday between 9 a.m. and noon. This work is weather dependent. Please expect long traffic delays during these times for this operation. 

Starting Monday, September 30, 2019, through Friday, October 4, 2019, there will be periodic, alternating lane closures with flagging on NY 7 South between Bevier St. and Frederick St. for roadway reconstruction work. This work will take place between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. daily and is weather dependent. 

Starting Monday, September 30, 2019, through Friday, October 4, 2019, there will be periodic, alternating lane closures with flagging on NY 7 North between Frederick St. and Bevier St. for roadway reconstruction work. This work will take place between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. daily and is weather dependent.

Starting Monday, September 30, 2019, through Friday, October 4, 2019, there will be flagging operations on Front Street between Prospect St. and Bevier St. for construction truck traffic.  This work will take place between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. daily and is weather dependent. 

Starting Monday, September 30, 2019, through Friday, October 4, 2019, there will be alternating lane closures on Broad Ave. from Abbott St. to Bevier St. for paving operations. Flaggers will be on site controlling single lane traffic through the work area. This work will take place between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. daily and is weather dependent. 

Starting Monday, September 30, 2019, through Friday, October 4, 2019, there will be alternating lane closures on Bevier Street from Chenango St. to Broad Avenue for paving operations.

Flaggers will be on site controlling single lane traffic through the work area. This work will take place between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. daily and is weather dependent. 

Motorists are reminded that fines are doubled for work zone infractions.  In accordance with the Work Zone Safety Act of 2005, convictions of two or more violations in a work zone could result in the suspension of the driver’s license.
