Authorities say a New York City police officer and a Broome County man died after a shooting incident in the Bronx.

NYPD officer Brian Mulkeen and Antonio Lavance Williams were involved in a violent struggle around 12:30 a.m. Sunday after a foot pursuit.

Williams, whose last known address was in Binghamton, was pronounced dead at the scene. Mulkeen was rushed to a hospital where he died a short time later.

According to the New York Daily News, Mulkeen was shot by his own gun and possibly by friendly fire from fellow officers.

Police say a .32 caliber revolver Williams had possessed was recovered. They say that gun had not been fired.

The Daily News reported Williams had been sentenced to three years probation after a March 2018 drug arrest in Endicott.

Williams was scheduled to appear in Binghamton City Court this Friday after being arrested August 15. Court records indicate he faced a count of harassment with physical contact. He had pleaded not guilty when he was arraigned.
