A Johnson City man faces a felony charge for allegedly moving toward police officers with knives in each hand.

Authorities say 23-year-old Zaid Rahman was arrested after police rushed to a Grand Avenue residence to investigate a report that a woman had attacked a woman.

Investigators say the woman activated a panic alarm. She told an alarm company dispatcher that her boyfriend had punched her in the face several times.

When officers arrived, the woman opened the door slightly while holding an infant. An officer spotted Rhaman behind the woman with a knife in both hands.

A police officer put his foot in the doorway to prevent the door from being shut. An officer managed to open the door enough to get the woman and the child out of the apartment.

Police say Rahman then stepped toward officers while holding both knives. The officers kept Rahman from advancing. He then turned and ran into another room. Police convinced him to drop the knives and leave the apartment.

Rahman was charged with menacing a police officer and harassment in connection with Tuesday's incident. Police say more charges are pending.

Rahman was arraigned and sent to Broome County Jail.
