Kelly Clarkson Performs ‘It’s Quiet Uptown’ on New Year’s Eve Special
Kelly Clarkson closed out 2016 with an emotional performance of "It's Quiet Uptown" from The Hamilton Mixtape. Clarkson's performance was a pre-recorded segment during NBC's Late Night With Seth Myers' New Years Eve special.
While appearing on The Today Show in early December, Clarkson admitted that she frequently gets emotional whenever she performs the song from the hit Broadway musical. The 34-year-old American Idol winner recorded the track about the death of Alexander and Eliza Hamilton's son while she was pregnant with her own son, who was born in April 2016.
“I’ve made it through once [without crying],” she said. “The problem is you want to be emotional, but it’s hard to be so much when you’re singing, because legit no sound will come out of my mouth.”
Clarkson has announced that 2017 will likely see the release of some new original music, including a single in April and her next album in June.
