Jury selection is scheduled to start for a Chenango County man accused of acting with his wife to kill their mentally and physically disabled teenage son last year before setting their home on State Highway 8 in Mount Upton on fire.

36 year old Ernest Franklin II is charged with felony murder, arson and tampering with physical evidence.  He could face 25 years to life in prison if convicted of murdering 16 year old Jeffrey Franklin March 1, 2017.

The double-wide mobile home on the rural lot in the Town of Guilford was found fully engulfed in flames when firefighters got to the scene in the early morning hours and later found the badly burned body of the autistic boy.  Investigators later said they determined the teen was dead before the fire broke out.

Prosecutors have claimed Franklin and his wife, 34 year old Heather Franklin, were inspired by the movie Manchester by the Sea in which a man accidently sets fire to his home, killing his children and escapes conviction.

Heather Franklin will be tried at a separate date.
