The 17th Annual Jim "Mudcat" Grant Celebrity Golf Tournament held in conjunction with Security Mutual life insurance Company of New York has raised over $45,000 for area non-profit organizations.  The President/Chairman and CEO of Security Mutual made the announcement and check presentations today (Thursday).

Four checks for $10,000 each were presented to CHOW, the Boys and Girls Club of Binghamton, Broome County Urban League and Catholic Charities of Broome County.  In addition another check for $5,400 was presented to the Homeless Veteran's Housing Project.

The golf tournament was held at the Links at Hiawatha and through the efforts of former Major League 20-game winner, Jim "Mudcat" Grant, attracts several dozen sports celebrities to play in the event.  Grant is the founder of "The Black Aces".  The group consists of African-American Major League Baseball pitchers who won 20 or more games in a single season.

Celebrity golfers included: former Binghamton Triplet and New York Yankee Al Downing, standout pitcher J.R. Richard, Pittsburgh Pirate ace Vernon Law, slugger Al Oliver and relief ace Lee Smith.

Security Mutual Life  is headquartered in Downtown Binghamton and organizes the tournament.  Security Mutual Life is a leader in supporting the community and participates in numerous charitable events both in Binghamton and the surrounding area.
