Authorities say a SUNY Broome Community College student who had been reported missing has been found dead.

Binghamton police had sought help from the public in locating 19-year-old Alexander Wetzel. They said he had last been in contact with his family on Tuesday morning.

Detectives Wednesday evening cancelled that "attempt to locate" in a brief message to news media. The statement from police indicated Wetzel had been found but provided no additional information.

SUNY Broome issued a statement Thursday morning confirming Wetzel's death.

The statement offered condolences to Wetzel's family and friends. Funeral arrangements have not been announced.
