James Corden Chokes Up During Emotional Message About Manchester Attack
As celebrities came out of the social media woodwork Monday night to share their prayers and messages of support for those affected by the Manchester terror attack, The Late Late Show host James Corden took pause while filming the pre-taped segment of his show, which he was just about to wrap as reports of the incident became public.
"It shocks me every time we hear this sort of news that attacks like this can happen, but especially when there will be so many children at this concert tonight," Corden, visibly emotional, said. "Many of you won’t have ever been to Manchester, but you will definitely have heard of it. It’s famous all over the world for so many things."
The late night TV host, himself from London, payed homage to the British city's many achievements and trademarks, from music to sports to food culture, before addressing Manchester's community-based strength.
"When I think of Manchester, the place that I know, I think of the spirit of the people there. And I’m telling you, a more tight-knit group of people you will be hard-pressed to find," he shared.
"Strong, proud, caring people with community at its core. And if it was even possible, the spirit of the people of Manchester will grow even stronger this evening," Corden continued. "My thoughts and prayers are with everyone in Manchester tonight, all of the staff at the MAN Arena, all of the security teams, all the emergency services, Ariana and her team, and all of those families affected tonight. We’ll all go to be holding our little ones even tighter this evening."
On Monday evening (May 22), 22 people were killed and more than 50 others seriously injured during a terrorist attack directly outside of Manchester Arena, the venue pop star Ariana Grande was performing at as part of her U.K. Dangerous Woman Tour.
The remainder of her tour has been suspended in light of the harrowing event.
