“Stadium 138″ Sports Bar to Open in Downtown Binghamton
Construction of a beer garden in a long-vacant space in Binghamton is nearing completion.
Stadium 138 will be a sports bar with indoor and outdoor seating. The new building is located at 138 Washington Street, a spot that has been unused since a fire tore through the Royal Lounge and an adult bookstore in December 1999.
Richard David acquired the property for $50,000 before he became Binghamton mayor.
David waited until after he left City Hall before working to redevelop the site.
On Friday, David told WNBF News that "it's all kind of coming together." He said he expects construction work to be completed in about three weeks.
The brick façade had been applied to the lower portion of the building. The façade for the second floor is to be added in the next few days.
Inside, painting and plumbing work remain to be done, along with the installation of a drop ceiling.
There is no specific target date for the opening of Stadium 138 but David said it will be in operation by the end of the year.
