Several Homeless After Binghamton House Fire
A three-story home in Binghamton's First Ward was heavily damaged by a blaze that left about eight people without a place to stay.
Authorities said the fire at 31 Grace Street was reported around 6:20 a.m. Monday.
The first firefighters on the scene reported flames could be seen on the first and second floors of the building.
Investigators believe six to eight people were inside the two-unit apartment house when the fire was discovered. Everyone was out of the building when police and firefighters arrived.
The main body of the fire was knocked down after 20 minutes.
The fire appeared to have started in a bedroom on the second floor. Fire and police department investigators were looking into the cause of the blaze but officials said the blaze did not appear to be suspicious.
The Red Cross was called to assist several adults who were left homeless by the fire.
