Three-Vehicle Accident Kills Waverly, New York Teen
On December 12, 2023, at approximately 12:50 p.m., New York State Police in Ithaca responded to an accident involving three vehicles on West Danby Road near Piper Road in the Town of Newfield.
According to New York State Police, a Jeep Patriot, and a Toyota Yaris were traveling north on West Danby Road. The driver of the Jeep Patriot stopped for a car that was turning ahead of it while the Toyota Yaris collided with it from behind. After the impact, the Toyota veered off into oncoming traffic and collided with a Cadillac CT6.
The passenger riding in the Toyota Yaris, identified as 17-year-old Peyton C. Shaw, a resident of Waverly, NY, was pronounced dead at the site of the accident. The driver of the vehicle, 18-year-old Dale T. Beeman, from Spencer, NY, was immediately airlifted to Robert Packer for further treatment of life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the Jeep Patriot was identified as 40-year-old Aristopher D. Bo, of Waverly, NY, while the driver of the Cadillac CT6 was identified as 29-year-old Stephen M. Lucente of Spencer, NY. Both drivers escaped unscathed. EMS checked the drivers at the scene, but neither required transportation to local hospitals.
The accident resulted in a road closure of West Danby for almost six hours in both directions. Traffic was rerouted through local roads.
