Nasco Home Closing Front Street Site to Make Room for Chain Store
A discount home center that's been a fixture for more than three decades in the town of Chenango is going out of business.
The Nasco Home and Flooring Center store at 1272 Front Street north of Binghamton will be closing its doors in a few weeks.
Store manager Seth Hamby said employees on Monday learned of the decision to shut down the location. He said the store is expected to close within the next 50 to 90 days.
The 30,000-square-foot Nasco Home unit opened at the Front Street site in December 2007. The company moved there from a smaller nearby location.
Hamby said the store has about eight employees. It's now running a "Going Out of Business" sale.
While the town of Chenango Nasco store will be shutting down, the company's operation in Waverly will remain open.
The space that's now been used by Nasco previously was housed the Northgate Speedway go-kart track.
After Nasco closes, the building will be renovated for a new Harbor Freight Tools store.
Harbor Freight Tools has operated a retail outlet in Vestal for the past 12 years. Its manager said that store will remain open. He said an opening date for the town of Chenango store has not been announced.
