The beautiful Kilmer Mansion is located at 9 Riverside Drive in Binghamton, built in 1898 for the Kilmer family. This historic mansion is used today to host many things including weddings, private events, and tours.

According to the Kilmer Mansion, the Kilmer family was world-famous for their Swamp Root. The family founded the Binghamton Press, and were owners of the 1918 Kentucky Derby racehourse winner,  ‘Exterminator.’

And speaking of horse racing, 'Friends of Kilmer Mansion ' will be hosting a Kentucky Derby Viewing Party on Saturday, May 4th, 2024 for a couple of reasons. One is to celebrate the induction of 'Exterminator' into the Greater Binghamton Sports Hall of Fame Class of 2024. The Hall of Fame ceremonies were held on April 29th at the Double-Tree Hotel.

The other reason is to help raise funds for the restoration of The Kilmer Mansion's North Terrace and East Porch. Both are currently closed due to rusted beams, crumbling mortar, and loose stones, according to a release from the Kilmer Mansion.

The fundraising event will include:

  • Viewing the Kentucky Derby live on a 36-foot inflatable screen
  • Lite food from Remlik’s and American Dining Creations
  • Whiskey and spirit tasting from ‘Do Good Spirits’ & ‘Black Button Distillery’
  • Wine tasting from ‘Boundary Breaks’
  • Hard Cider tasting from ‘Awestruck’
  • Live music provided by ‘Buttercup Chins’ and ‘Ms. Honey and the Hive’
  • A cash bar featuring Mint Juleps
  • A Wine Pull and a Whiskey Pull

The Saturday, May 4th fundraiser will be from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Kilmer Mansion. For more information and to purchase tickets, visit the Kilmer Mansion website.
