Johnson City Village Government Offices to Move Soon
The village hall offices in Johnson City are about to be relocated at a site that also will be used as a public works department facility.
Construction and renovation work at the former Country Valley Industries property at 60 Lester Avenue is nearing completion.
The 6-acre site was acquired by Great Eastern Hemp in 2019. Company officials had said they expected to hire as many as 40 workers to process hemp at the building but that plan fell through.
The village of Johnson City acquired the property through the eminent domain process. The village paid near $2.6 million for the site in December 2021.
The Johnson City village board last September authorized borrowing $12 million for the project.
Crews from LeChase Construction Services started renovation work for the new village office complex in October.
Joshua Holland, Johnson City's director of services, said he expects the contractors to be completed working at the site by the end of next week.
Mayor Martin Meaney told WNBF News that village offices at the current municipal building will be closed during the week of August 14 while phone and computer equipment is moved.
Meaney said the goal is to have offices open at the Lester Avenue facility on August 21.
Holland said public works operations will be moved to the new site over the next couple of months.
The village offices have been located in the former Marine Midland Bank building at 243 Main Street since 1986. That property is to be sold after the offices have been relocated.
