In a recent operation, law enforcement authorities executed a search warrant that led to the recovery of over a dozen grams of fentanyl in the Town of Chenango. The ensuing investigation resulted in multiple drug-related felony charges against a Binghamton man.

On November 7, 2023, the Broome County Special Investigations Unit Task Force carried out the search warrant at a residence located at 174 1/2 Castle Creek Rd. The target of the operation was Andre M. Gilliam, a 44-year-old resident of Binghamton. During the search, authorities discovered the following incriminating items:

  • 8.7 grams of fentanyl
  • 4.1 grams of multicolored pills testing positive for fentanyl
  • A scale and cutting agent used in the distribution of narcotics
  • $3,790 in US currency

The United States Drug Enforcement Administration highlights the extreme potency of fentanyl, stating that a dose as small as 2 milligrams can be fatal, depending on the individual's size.

Following the completion of the investigation, Andre M. Gilliam was apprehended and charged with several offenses, including:

  • Two counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 3rd Degree, which are classified as Class B Felonies
  • Two counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 4th Degree, which are classified as Class C Felonies
  • Two counts of Criminally Using Drug Paraphernalia in the 2nd Degree, classified as Class A Misdemeanors

Gilliam was transported to the Broome County Correctional Facility, where he will undergo processing and await arraignment at Central Arraignment.

This operation was made possible through the combined efforts of the Broome County Special Investigations Unit Task Force, which consists of members from the Broome County Sheriff's Office, the City of Binghamton Police Department, and the Village of Johnson City Police Department. The Broome County Sheriff's Office Road Patrol also assisted in the operation.

Authorities remain committed to their ongoing efforts to maintain the security and well-being of the residents of Chenango and beyond, sending a strong message that illegal drug activities will not be tolerated within their jurisdiction.
