Dispose Of Medications Safely: Broome County Drug Take Back Day Is April 27

It's time to check your medicine cabinets or any place where you have expired and unused prescription medication lying around and get rid of them.

There's a right way and a wrong way to dispose of these medications. Throwing them away in your garbage is not the correct way. The correct way is to bring them to select locations on Drug Take Back Day.

It just so happens the next Drug TakeBack Day will be Saturday, April 27, 2024, from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM at various locations throughout Broome County, according to the Broome County Sheriff’s Office and the Broome County Health Department.

It's part of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration's Nationwide Prescription Drug “Take Back” Initiative. If you live in Broome County, you are encouraged to turn in your expired and unused prescription medications for proper disposal at one of six locations around the community.

Keep your medications in their original container with the label intact, but you may blacken out your name on the label if you wish. All medications, ointments, and sprays will be accepted on April 27th, 2024.

One item that will not be accepted, is sharps. If you have sharps that need to be disposed of, click HERE for Broome County locations that will accept them.

According to the Broome County Sheriff's Office and the Broome County Health Department, county residents can drop off medications at these locations, no questions asked:

•  The Broome County Sheriff’s Office - 155 Lt. VanWinkle Drive, Binghamton
•  Johnson City Elks Lodge – 4212 Watson Boulevard, Johnson City
•  UHS Vestal – 4417 Vestal Parkway East, Vestal
•  West Endicott Fire Department – 113 North Page Avenue, Endicott
•  West Windsor Fire Department – 9 Karla Drive, Windsor
•  Whitney Point Fire Department – 2665 Main Street, Whitney Point
