A tapas restaurant and cocktail lounge in downtown Binghamton has suspended operations.

Social on State last operated on September 10. The business at 201 State Street has been closed since then.

A sign at the entrance states the restaurant "will be closed until further notice."

Co-owner Mark Yonaty said the business has been dealing with "staffing issues" in recent months. He said he had concerns about the operation, so he decided to shut the place down for now.

Social on State opened in June 2014. According to the restaurant's website, its "menu is comprised of items that are designed for sharing." It said "tapas dishes are made to order and delivered to the table throughout your dining experience."

Yonaty indicated he's looking forward to reopening the restaurant with an eye toward "rebranding." He did not say how soon that might happen.

For now, Yonaty is focusing on putting the finishing touches and hiring staff for Station 45 American Chop House. That restaurant will be located in the restored Lackawanna Train Station on Lewis Street. It's expected to open this fall.

Yonaty also is preparing to open a sports bar in downtown Binghamton. He said Courtside Bar & Grill should be operational by the end of September.

The bar will be at the site of The Colonial, which operated for several years at 56-58 Court Street.
