Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital - a century-old healthcare fixture in Binghamton - has been acquired by the Sayre-based Guthrie Clinic.

Ascension Health of St. Louis sold Lourdes and its affiliated operations in Broome, Tioga and Delaware counties to Guthrie. The deal was announced last June.

Terms of the sale were not disclosed as part of that announcement but Guthrie had sought approval to borrow $140 million to finance the acquisition.

Lourdes is anchored by the 242-bed hospital on Riverside Drive on Binghamton's West Side. It was founded in October 1925 by the Daughters of Charity in what once was the home of Merritt Corbett.

A Guthrie spokesperson said Lourdes and its affiliates employ about 3,000 people.

Lourdes workers were issued their new Guthrie badges on Thursday as the formal transition was completed.

Crews with Jax Signs of Endicott showed up at 6 a.m. to remove Ascension signage - which had been in place for about two years. New signs for Guthrie Lourdes Hospital were installed during the day.

Guthrie signs will soon appear at all Lourdes facilities across the Southern Tier.
