Speed Reductions Implemented in Southern Tier Due to Winter Storm
The New York State Department of Transportation is asking drivers to avoid travel as much as possible as heavy snow is still expected Tuesday into Wednesday.

Restrictions have been placed on New York roads. Tandem and empty trucks are banned on I-84 for the entire length, I-88 for the entire length, I-87 from Albany to Plattsburgh, I-87 from exit 17 to exit 24, I-90 from exit 24 to exit 36, I-90 – I-87 to Berkshire Spur, I-81 from the PA line to Syracuse, and Route 17 from Middletown to Binghamton.
In Pennsylvania, PennDOT has reduced speeds to 45 miles an hour and restricted commercial vehicles to the right lane only on Interstate 380 in Lackawanna and Wayne Counties and Interstate 84 in Lackawanna, Wayne, and Pike Counties.UPDATE: These restrictions and speed reductions have been lifted.

PennDOT is also temporarily reducing the speed limit to 45 miles per hour and restricting commercial vehicles to the right lane only on Interstate 81, north of the I-84 Junction, in Lackawanna and Susquehanna Counties.
In Broome County, County Executive Jason Garnar has issued a travel advisory until further notice. The travel advisory does not mean that drivers are not allowed on the road, but rather that the only allowable travel is for work and emergency purposes.

Broome County remains under a State of Emergency. Broome County offices are closed today, Tuesday, March 14, and should reopen on March 15. Broome County Transit and the Greater Binghamton Airport are scheduled to operate normally today.
The vast majority of Southern Tier area schools have either closed today or are operating on a virtual learning plan. If you are unsure whether your school is closed or is holding virtual classes, you'll find that information here.
