Sidney, New York Woman Pleads Guilty to Criminal Trespass
Edna Cering, a 42-year-old resident of Sidney, New York, appeared before Delaware County Court and entered a guilty plea to one count of Criminal Trespass in the Second Degree.
The incident took place on August 5, 2023, when Officer Morgan Smith of the Village of Sidney Police received reports of individuals squatting in another person's home. The homeowner's identity has been withheld.
Upon arriving at the scene, Officer Smith was informed by neighbors that two individuals had just fled from the residence and into the nearby woods. Officer Smith was able to verify the identities of the trespassers, one of whom was Edna Cering.
After capturing both Ms. Cering and the other individual, Officer Smith reached out to the homeowner, who confirmed that neither of the trespassers had permission to be on the premises. Subsequently, both individuals were arrested.
In the presence of John L. Hubbard, Delaware County Court Judge, Ms. Cering pleaded guilty to one count of Criminal Trespass in the Second Degree, as defined by Section 140.15 of the Penal Law of the State of New York. Judge Hubbard then imposed a one-year conditional discharge, a fine, and a mandatory state surcharge as part of Ms. Cering's sentence.
