It's been seven months since we were all but told that Chick-fil-A would be coming to the Southern Tier. Unless you're hearing something I'm not, we're at a stalemate.

When we heard that the Oakdale Mall was going to be transformed into the Oakdale Commons, we learned that new businesses and restaurants were coming too. Many of us were hoping and praying that Chick-fil-A would be one of them.

In 2021,there was a petition that encouraged us to bring Chick-fil-A to Broome County. It started with 19 signatures, and reached 1,824 signatures but has stalled at that number.

Our hopes grew even more, when someone noticed that there were job openings posted in job search websites. They were looking for people that wanted to work in various capacities at a Chick-fil-A that was coming to Binghamton.

Where Chick-fil-A Could Be Coming In the Southern Tier

It's been crickets for the most part but I've heard some people mention that officials are looking for just the right spot that can handle the traffic. One of the first places that come to my mind is the former McDonalds in Endwell, across from Burger King.

Another location that would be ideal is the Binghamton Plaza. There is plenty of parking space and I'm sure they could find a way to make a drive-thru too. The Northgate Plaza on Upper Front Street is on the other side of Touch of Texas is a possibility.

NOTHING around the Southern Tier stays a secret for long. So is the deafening silence a sign that the national food chain has changed its mind and is staying away from the Southern Tier entirely?

If you've heard something...anything, please let us know. You must have a friend of a friend's uncle that's heard from their neighbor's sister that Chick-fil-A is coming as fast as its #1 drive-through.

While we're on the subject of new businesses coming to Broome County. Are we ever going to actually get the Trader Joe's they promised? Not holding my breath.
